Breakfast like a King

One of Alys Fowler's goals in The Edible Garden was to eat one meal a day from her garden. I'm not sure that I be able to do that, not this year anyway, but I would like to be able to include at least one item from it every day.

This morning I picked three radishes from our front window box which went very well with a boiled egg and several slices of Mark's rye bread for breakfast. They are, after all, called French Breakfast radishes.

  1. Isn't it lovely to eat fresh home grown produce and if you don't throw chemicals on it you know it's better for you and for the wildlife in your garden.

I keep forgetting to sow radish seed, although I've not been too successful when I have remembered in the past. However, I did have a handful of home-grown strawberries for breakfast and some home-grown lettuce for lunch. We also eat home-laid eggs on a regular basis.

  2. I'd give the radishes another go, Karin. Mine have done well two years in a row with minimal effort. However I'm going to look for another pepperier variety as the French Breakfast is rather mild for my taste.

Lucky you with your freshly laid eggs. I'd love to keep chickens but we don't have enough in our back garden.
